The box was a shallow rectangle, only a few inches deep. Overall, it was about the same size and shape as an average board game box, though just a little larger than most. It was made of dark wood, with brass hinges and a latch, which all looked old and well used. It was obviously an antique.
Chloe Sanders had just been walking home from school, and had taken a shortcut through the small park down the street from her house, just like she did every day.
